The League Week 8:
By: Nick Collins ‘15
Game of the Week: Kittle me This (Tyler) 109 vs St. Louis Blue Bands (Konnor) 73
In this week’s version of the Pink Whitney game of the week, we see Tyler getting a big victory over Konnor. Although Tyler’s name sake could be out for the remainder of the fantasy season, he needed this win to solidify his team as a playoff contender. Russell Wilson led the way for him with 28 points. For Konnor, his team saw an unexpected laugher of a performance. For starters, his kicker was his second highest scorer, LOL! A big win for Tyler this week allows him to carry momentum into next week against another tough team in Taylor. Konnor will host Brady.
The Sober Gophers (Joey) 95 vs Not Bad for a Running Back (DJ) 53
Well someone had to win this matchup, and for the first time this season it was Joey. This was a matchup that perhaps no one had their eyes on. No longer the Sober 0phers, his road to 6–7 started Sunday, according to Joey himself. For DJ, he almost set a record, one that no one wants. 52 is the lowest a team has ever scored (Michael), but DJ clears that by 1. 7 of his guys went on to combine for 17 points. A matchup that we could easily see again at the end of the year goes to Joey this time. Next week the Gophers play Josh’s Football Team, and DJ plays Jackson.
Saving Matt Ryan (Jackson) 148 vs .Rogo (Eric) 111
The league high this week belongs to Jackson. His 148 points allowed him to cruise to victory of Eric. Dalvin Cook was surely cooking Sunday scoring Jackson 54 points by himself. For Eric, his 111 would have beat 7 other teams, but unfortunately he went up against the red hot fighting Burdyshaws. This win almost guarantees Jackson a playoff birth, as he is now tied for the league’s best record. Eric falls to 3–5, and will need to compete for the last playoff spot. Jackson plays DJ, and Eric plays Michael next week.
Josh’s Football Team (Josh) 105 vs Can’t Guard Mike (Taylor) 101
Another close loss for Taylor sees Josh coming out victorious. It was not pretty, but Josh got the job done and moves to 4–4. Two tough losses for Taylor must be making the former Euclid Panther furious. When will Mike Thomas come back? This is an answer Taylor desperately needs. If it weren’t for Josh’s Eagles defense scoring big Sunday night, this could be a completely different game. Congrats to the leagues youngest member on another victory. He plays Joey next week, and Taylor plays Tyler.
Alvin and the Chipmunks (Brady) 123 vs Dirty Mike and the Boys 105
Finally back into the win column for Brady after a couple rough few weeks. Alvin and his fellow chipmunks came to play this week aiding Brady to a much needed win. We talked about hibernation last week, but it appears they woke up. Michael has to be frustrated after wasting a 40-point performance from DK Metcalf and 36 points from Mahomes. Not enough from the Palmetto state resident this week gives him a 3–5 record, and he will have to fight to make the playoffs. Next week Brady plays Konnor, and Michael will play Rogo. Best of luck to both.
Good, Bad, and Ugly
The Good
- Dalvin Cook, RB, Vikings
The Vikings star running back exploded Sunday, seeing the end zone 4 times including a bonus touchdown as well. 54 fantasy points helped give Jackson the league high this week. The Packers could not stop this man at all, resulting in Eric lose his mind. Can Cook run Jackson to the championship? Only time will tell, but what a performance this week from Dalvin Cook.
• Davante Adams, WR, Packers
In that same matchup, the Packers had a nice performance again from Davante. We are getting used to seeing his name on this list, that’s for sure. He had 7 catches, 53 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Unfortunately, Eric lost the matchup even though Adams scored 30 points. With no doubt Adams is a key piece to Rogo’s success this season, how far can Adams take him.
• Russell Wilson, QB, Seahawks
We know that DK Metcalf had a great game and more fantasy points than Wilson, but we need to give respect to the MVP frontrunner. He wasn’t even the highest scoring QB this week, but when needed he gave Tyler 25 points in the game of the week. That is the definition of a prime time player. An incredible season from Russ continued Sunday against the 49ers. We felt the need to shine the spotlight on him and give him his credit. Plus, in order for DK to have the game he did, someone had to get him the ball. We will see if Russ can keep performing for Tyler this year.
The Bad
• DJ’s team
This week we will take an unusual approach and not highlight certain players, but rather DJ’s team. I’m sorry in advance DJ, but it had to be done. When scoring just one point over the league all time low, it needs to be discussed. 7 players on his team COMBINED for 17 total points. Changes are needed after this week, that is for sure. As for other league teams, if you perform like this, you can find your team on this list.
The Ugly
• George Kittle, TE, 49ers
The namesake for Tyler’s team went down this week with a foot injury. That’s not the worst news however, as the star tight end will be out for at least 8 more weeks. This is a big blow for Tyler as Kittle is one of the best players at the position. Big shoes to fill, but someone will need to do it.
• Kenny Golladay, WR, Lions
The Lions and Konnor saw Golladay leave the game early Sunday with a hip injury. He is not expected to play this upcoming week against the Vikings. Hopefully this injury doesn’t linger for Konnor’s team and for Golladay’s sake.
