Week 10
By: Nick Collins ‘15
I hope you didn’t bet the overs on this week’s ho-hum matchups. Nothing stood out this week scoring wise, but let’s take a look at this past weeks’ action.
Pink Whitney Game of the week: .Rogo (Eric) 127 vs Josh’s Football team 114
It doesn’t take much to know who played in this week’s Pink Whitney Game of the Week. Eric gets a huge win against Josh winning by a margin of 13. Both quarterbacks scored 29 in this matchup, but Kyler Murray’s game winning throw really helped Eric. This was a big game because these two are the ones battling for the last playoff spot. Who gets in and who gets out will be decided in the next weeks, but remember this game at the end of the year.
St. Louis Blue Bands (Konnor) 132 vs Saving Matt Ryan (Jackson) 84
In another big matchup this week, we see the Blue Bands cashing in. The Blue Bands hit big when they started Tom Brady, who scored 31 fantasy points. After all that praise for Jackson, his team decided to take the week off. Dalvin Cook couldn’t save his team Monday night like we have seen in weeks past. Both teams sit at 7–3, and are preparing for the postseason. The Blue Bands made a statement this week, watch out for Saint Louis moving forward.
Can’t Guard Mike (Taylor) 120 vs Not Bad for a Running Back (DJ) 103
In what could have been a trap game, DJ cannot pull off the upset against Taylor. A big win to stay afloat in the playoffs for Taylor was needed, and Tee Higgins delivered with 22 points. For DJ, his season is not bad for a first time fantasy player, but the former champ is anything but. The season is almost all but over but he needs to avoid the Jamokus Jones Bowl, a trophy he really does not want. Taylor needs to keep the momentum going to secure that playoff bid.
Alvin and the Chipmunks (Brady) 115 vs The Sober Gophers (Joey) 91
Joey is that team that Alabama and Clemson play every year that just comes to play because they get money. The only thing is Joey doesn’t get money, just embarrassment. A historically bad year for Joey sees him losing another one to Brady. For Brady, he got another good week from team name sake Alvin Kamara. A big win for his playoff hopes has to have Brady feeling good again. We have never seen a back to back champion, but in the year 2020 anything can happen.
Kittle Me This (Tyler) 100 vs Dirty Mike and the Boys (Michael) 73
A win this week puts Tyler at 7–3 and primed for a playoff run. His team has been solid all year, but this week 3 unsung heroes stepped up for him. Brandon Aiyuk, JD McKissic, and Salvon Ahmed are not names everyone knows, but they helped Tyler secure the victory. For Michael it is another year down the drain. At this point Michael just donates money to the rest of the league once a year. Will he ever win it, who knows, but Tyler certainly has that chance.
Good, Bad, and Ugly
The Good
Like we mentioned, there were not many spectacular performances this week, so let’s look at two of them.
- Alvin Kamara, RB, Saints
Kamara was marching all day for the Saints as they battled the 49ers. He had 3 touchdowns, but also played a big role in the passing game catching 7 passes for 83 yards. His production helped Brady roll to victory this week, and he is a key piece to any title hopes Brady may have. Drew Brees is missing however, so we will see if that has any impact on Kamara’s production.
- Tom Brady, QB, Buccaneers
Another NFC South player had a nice afternoon Sunday. After last week being on the bad list, Tampa Tom migrates to this list. He had 341 passing yards and 3 touchdowns against the Panthers. He might not be aging after all, and this certainly delights the Commissioner of this league. Can Tom keep it up and help Konnor get his first title?
The Bad
- AJ Brown, WR, Titans
Downtown AJ Brown did not live up to expectations this week for Jackson. He scored 3 fantasy points which resulted in a Jackson defeat. Brown has been fairly consistent this year so this performance surprised many people. Jackson needs Brown to play well so he can win the title, so weeks like this cannot happen again.
The Ugly
- Drew Brees, QB, Saints
Drew Brees got crunched this week, resulting in a few cracked ribs and a collapsed lung. I am no doctor, but a collapsed lung does not sound like something you should have. It will be several weeks before we see Brees back, which could hurt Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas’ values.
